BARNYARD BANTER
HARVEST FESTIVAL 2010
You will have to indulge me this time. We have just completed a wonderful Harvest Festival at the park so I have a lot of photos to share with you. It was a perfect day for our celebration of the harvest.
Ladies were quilting, stringing beans, slicing apples and pears for drying under the shade tree.
Others were preparing dessert with the convenient pears that had fallen on the ground.
There was a demonstration for making lye soap.
Guests learned how to make leather goods.
There were blacksmithing demonstrations.
Music. Storytelling. Children’s crafts.
Tours of the heirloom vegetable garden were also available.
There were demonstrations for boiling wool, drying wool, carding wool and then spinning it.
The wool that was worked with came directly from the shearing demonstration.
As I asked you to indulge me in this post: I had a wonderful time experiencing all of the activities above and so much more. (I didn’t get photos of the chair caning, basket weaving, the horse drawn wagon rides, the tobacco harvesting, the wonderful food…..we had SO much going on!) – but one of my personal favorites – drum roll – I was permitted to try hand shearing!
What a happy day. See you next year! In the meantime, plan to attend our Christmas Event on December 4th.
